Dry Bones
I'm not sure anything has struck me so significantly then this summer when I read and heard the words from Ezekiel 37.
"The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live? ... Then he said to me, 'Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ' dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones; I will make breath enter, and you will come to life... as I was Prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound and the bones came together, bone to bone..."
I'm sorry, What? Bones rattling together and then they come alive? Again, I'm sorry what?
All of the sudden, I imagined my own church sanctuary starting from the far back corner (Yes that's over there by you Sherry and Dustin) like a stadium doing the wave, start to slowly rise, hands lifted to heaven breathing the breath of God GIVING LIFE and surrendering to our Heavenly Father. I saw, in my head, the wave coming forward to the front side and then slowly coming to the middle and back again toward the sound booth. As the rising and surrendering flowed from the middle front and continued southward, I looked at the ones who were left and not standing, but instead weeping. This group still seated was the older and wiser people in our congregation seeing what was happening and knowing this is what they had been desperately praying for. This group remained seated and watched God's people who have always loved Him, but were carried away by the busyness of life and for perhaps the first time, realizing all of that was nothing and all of HIM is EVERYTHING.
Finally, the wave stops at the opposite front side with shouts of worship from all. At this point, the wave returns in the opposite direction as several are now on their knees realizing the desperateness of their soul. We have forsaken our First Love. Now we were asking God's forgiveness and anticipating the grace and mercy to wash over us in freedom. Freedom to worship and live life how it was meant to be in an intimate relationship with God. Wave after wave after wave of emotion can be felt around the large normally cold room but now filled with the warmth of the Holy Spirit moving quickly, freely and abundantly through the rafters. (much like a bat during a communion service)
It all started from these "dry" bones
Dry means:
-Void of water.
-free from moisture of liquid;
-having lost all wetness or moisture over a period of time
-not yielding a supply of water; stopped producing
-bare or lacking adornment un exciting, dull, unemotional
That's me sometimes...most of the time ok ...almost all the time.
-void of the Holy Spirit's water that will make me thirst no more,
-over a period of time...it didn't just happen all at once.
-not producing fruit.
-unexciting walk with my Savior. A dull, unemotional feeling for the things of Christ.
Then Jesus Speaks to you...look what I've done for you and how much I love you...
the dry bones start to rattle. First in the back corner and slowly they stand, then together...then the once dry bones start to weep and produce moisture, become emotional, full of excitement for our God and start producing a spirit of joy that is contagious as in the first church in the New Testament.
That's our God. His Spirit is so sweet. His forgiveness is so disproportionate.
He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"
